Soufflenheim

A large number of our Alsatian ancestors came from Soufflenheim, north of present day Strasbourg in Alsace, France.  Soufflenheim is very close to the Rhine River and the former Duchy of Baden in Germany. Another large number of other early settlers came to Maryhill from villages  just south of present day  Baden-Baden in Germany.  The early records of Maryhill cite these places of origin.

All these settlers spoke German but the area passed back and forth between French  and German control over several centuries.
